Leeds College of Music: Electronic Resources


 A number of electronic resources are available. Some are loaded onto the PCs, some are on CD-ROMs, and some are online. CD-ROMs are kept at the library counter. Please ask for advice as to which resource you can use where. To use the computers in the Learning Resource Room you will need to borrow a swipe card from the library counter.

British Humanities Index

BHI  indexes more than 320 humanities journals and newspapers published in the UK. The subjects it covers include music, literature, philosophy, education, art and women's studies.

CID2001

You may find Careers Information Database useful when making careers decisions.

Classical Music

This interactive CD-ROM features over 60 composers, audio excerpts from over 200 works together with video performances. It also has a timeline with key events in the lives of great composers for every year since 1659.

EAS 2001 Entry

This package enables you to fill out your UCAS form on the computer.

ECCTIS

This database allows access to information on over 70,000 courses at UK universities and colleges of further and higher education

Electronics

5 CD-ROM box set covering networks, electronic devices, integrated circuits and digital circuits. Electronics is a comprehensive interactive learning system allowing progression at your own pace.

Encarta 97 & New Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia

Interactive, multimedia encyclopedias each containing over 2000 articles. Both have extensive music sections.

Finale

 A music processing package available on several of the machines in the Learning Resources Centre.

Indian Classical Dance

An entertaining look at 7 Indian classical dances. Leading exponents demonstrate each dance form.

India Festiva & India Mystica

Two separate multimedia CD-ROMs. Festiva celebrates the most popular festivals of all the major religions in India: Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jain, Parsi and Sikh. Mystica explores the popular beliefs, practices, ceremonies and rituals of the every day lives of Indians. Include audio and video clips.

International Index to Music Periodicals (IIMP)

This index draws its current content from more than 360 international music periodicals from over 20 countries, and also indexes feature music articles and obituaries appearing in The New York Times and The Washington Post. It covers nearly all aspects of the world of music, from the most scholarly studies to the latest crazes. All records since 1996 contain an abstract.

Jazz: A Multimedia History

A complete chronology of jazz music and its masters with text, photos, videos and selected recordings from 1923-1991.

Karishma

A guide to Indian life history and culture making special use of photographs, video and music.

Multimedia Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring& Multimedia Strauss: Three Tone Poems

These CD-ROMs are an in depth study of these works and their composers, combining text, graphics, music and scores. The Strauss tone poems are Don Juan, Don Quixote and Death & Transfiguration.

MUSE (MUsic SEarch)

A database of abstracts from the international Repertory of Music Literature and the catalogue of the Library of Congress in the USA. It contains over 550,000 citations of periodical articles and books, and details of recordings from 1969 to the present. It covers classical, jazz, rock and pop music, and subjects including history, theory, ethno-musicology, psychology and acoustics.

Music Central 97

An interactive one-stop music source to pop music combining diversity of musical styles and artists from 1950.

Musical Instruments

Good introduction to instruments of the world. Looks at their history, development and how they are played.

Musition

A music theory training package. Like Auralia, Musition leads you through a variety of graded exercises and offers you instant feedback.

NISC DISCover

RILM is an index of scholarly periodicals, books and theses in music. Here it is available on CD-ROM.

Orchestra

A multimedia CD-ROM featuring an orchestral performance explained and conducted by Simon Rattle. An interactive program featuring various sections of the orchestra.

Sibelius

A music processing package available on several  machines in the Learning Resources Centre and library.

Times Career Database

This CD-ROM contains details of the careers in the UK's top 100 companies.

UCAS Directory

An electronic version of the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service directory.
